While the term 'JRPG' technically stands for 'Japanese Role-Playing Game', over the years it's essentially gone on to become a genre of its own with distinguishable traits popularized by series such as Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. Using the term JRPG as more of a genre rather than a place of development, there's been some great games designed in the JRPG format that weren't actually made in Japan themselves.
