Recently the Linux kernel maintainers decided to deprecate the 80 column warnings present within the Linux kernel and along with this Linus Torvalds had an email back and forth with a few members of the community about why 80 character line limits don't matter at all anymore and shouldn't be enforced in modern code bases.
