Skip past the loadouts at the start, and the shopping at the end, if you like. Also newbieness can make some of the decision-making in the earlier levels take longer than usual. Feel free to skip around/ahead if you want to see more competent gameplay.

SteamWorld Heist is a really cool game, guys. It's like... X-COM and Worms had a baby. And the baby was a ragtag group of space pirates with guns that you had to strategize every shot and move around! The game is turn-based. It's lots of fun!

I'm gonna dump some tips and strategy I came across while playing:
BREACHING is your friend. End a turn with a unit just outside of a closed door and you can open it for free on your next. This allows for quick mobility and action!
If there isn't an alarm timer and there is no enemy movement between turns, take your time in setting all your units up before breaching into the next room. Skip turns to recharge skills, if need be, too!
Aiming for the head can trigger a critical hit. It's a 50% chance plus whatever buffs/items you have. A critical hit does the amount of damage shown on your weapon. It's a neat little bonus and NOT a huge x2 damage or anything.
CRIPPLING is something the game doesn't really talk about. But if you need to restrict movement of an enemy, aim to hit their legs! You might trigger a cripple status which prevents them from moving the next turn! This is SUPER helpful on melee enemies and bosses!
Different weapons are more prone to ricochet than others... Those with burst fire tend to just sink into the wall after a very short distance, for example. And Bazookas seem to explode when they hit a barrel (not too clear on this one). Don't assume your shot is gonna bounce! Test them out when you have a spare moment.
LONG range laser sights are not created equally. Some will show a light clear across the room with many ricochets, others will just extend maybe half a big room, others... almost nothing at all. Be aware that the super long sight weapons tend to be SINGLE-SHOT sharpshooter weapons with no added bonuses.
Jumpacks are the best items ever. Use them. They beat any and all movement bonuses since they let you jump to higher platforms with or without ladders.
Positioning is everything. Decide on whether you can breach a room and take out most of the enemy with safe spots to hold, or whether it is better to have the enemy come to you.
Shotguns kinda stink.
Early armor stinks, too. Far better to use health packs.
If you defeat an enemy with a multi-shot weapon (shotgun/burst fire/whatever) only the shots that defeated the enemy will be absorbed! The rest will travel onwards to hurt enemies standing behind and so on.
Use it or lose it. Don't hoard your water unless you really need to! If you lose a mission with a lot of water in tow, you'll lose a TON. It's also worth checking out the harder missions when you're really low on water because a loss won't ding you quite so much.
