90 Second Review - Dome Keeper
0Dome Keeper, a fun but not particularly special or unique Mining Action Roguelike.
The core gameplay loop takes elements from the likes of steamworld dig and other myriad mining games and fuses it with a sort of 2D tower defence component which brought back childhood memories of playing missile command. It’s ok as a premise but something fundamentally feels off about the whole experience, I don’t know whether it’s the speed of the experience or the lack of satisfying unlocks it just feels a little dull to me.
With solid, while not remarkable pixel style graphics and a space styled soundtrack not dissimilar to games such as FTL and No Mans Sky. Dome Keeper managed to establish a stylistic impression but unfortunately one that did not feel unique or add a huge amount to the overall experience.
The best roguelikes are the ones that permeate your life and elicit the “just one more run” feeling however while Dome keeper is undoubtably a decent way to spend a few hours it’s not a game I feel compelled to come back to until it finds what I think it’s mining for.
