A brief (and not so-bright) history of the kerb heights in #formula1 #motorsport / #simracing
A brief (and not so-bright) history of the kerb heights:
In the early 1990s, track limits were not as strictly monitored as it has been in recent years.
A primary way of enforcing track limits were high kerbs. These high kerbs acted as physical deterrents, punishing drivers who strayed beyond the track limit by compromising their car's stability.
The higher kerbs were not only demanding in terms of racecraft, but they were also proven to be dangerous for drivers. The tragic events at the Imola circuit in 1994 serve as a stark reminder of the risks associated with high kerbs.
Among others, Barrichello's crash prompted a shift in mentality towards the adoption of lower kerbs which brought us to the modern standards gradually.
