A CRAPPY Drummer's BASIC Playing ACTUALLY Made This Song an All-Time Classic! | Professor of Rock
Kenny Loggins the king of the movie soundtrack with hit like Footloose and Danger Zone for Top Gun tells the story of his first big movie hit. I'm Alright from Caddyshack. He was recording with a really mediocre drummer who could only play a basic beat but it actually turned I'm Alright into a massive hit and put Kenny on the Map for good as a solo artist. Kenny shares the story with professor of rock.

It’s time for another edition of our show Revelations where featured artists take us for a deep dive behind their greatest songs and albums. In 1980 Kenny Loggins won his first Grammy for Song of the Year. He shared the award with Michael McDonald as they both wrote the crown jewels of soft rock or yacht rock depending on your preference. What A Fool Believes.
Up to that point Kenny had already carved out a multi-platinum career as Loggins and Messina was one of the biggest duos of the 70s, then he was part of a top 5 hit with Stevie Nicks, Whenever I Call You Friend and had a #11 smash with Micheal McDonald This is It. All of those hits came from collaboration, but Kenny would fly solo into the 80s with his first solo non-collaboration top 10 hits when he penned the Theme to one of the 80s greatest comedies, I’m Alright From Caddy Shack II which would not only become a massive #7 hit but would start Kenny’s path to becoming the King of the Movie Soundtrack when Footloose and Danger Zone amongst many others would follow.
Up next we have the story of I’m Alright from a few interviews I’ve done with Kenny including a recent Zoom session with a surprise appearance from an ionic voice who sang background and lead on the bridge.
As we go into this song story I want to thank our sponsor Zenni Eyewear, in my own experience of wearing Zenni’s for over a year now. They have the best frames on the market, so cost-effective you can get 2 to 3 pairs for what you pay for one elsewhere. Here’s Kenny with the story.
Kenny has his new album At The Movies out now. The link to stream or buy it is in the description... Leave us a comment about this amazing singalong from 1980.
