Part 1 of my Orwell blind playthrough starts with us logging into Orwell for the first time, meeting Symes, and reviewing the footage of a bomb exploding in a municipal square. We are then presented with Cassandra Watergate, our prime suspect, who was seen in the square just prior to the explosion and who has a criminal record for assaulting a police officer in a different protest. Part 2 of let’s play Orwell has us finding out more information about Cassandra, eavesdropping on another conversations with her lawyer and boyfriend, and investigating her mental health and connections with The Thoughts, an activist group opposed to The Nation’s surveillance state systems. Part 3 of the Orwell full walkthrough takes us deeper in Cassandra’s past, we find out more about The Thought, and have her arrested. Episode 1 of Orwell then ends with yet another attack. Part 4 of Let’s Play Orwell opens with the start of Episode 2, we add Professor Abraham Goldfels to our list of targeted persons and begin mining his documents for information. Part 5 of Let’s Play Orwell blind has us investigating Prof. Goldfels’ students – Juliet Kerrington and Harrison O’Donnell. In Part 6 of Orwell Episode 2, we continue looking at Harrision and Juliet, and then are introduced to Initiate, a hacker who may be important to the story. Part 7 shows the end of Orwell Episode 2, we find another member of Thought and avert catastrophe (the Orwell Episode 2 good ending).
The game is built around an episodic model, the five episodes—The Clocks Were Striking Thirteen, A Place Where There is No Darkness, Unperson, Memory Hole, and Under The Spreading Chestnut Tree—will come out once a week. With each episode, we will get deeper into the story and potentially uncover more information about the ongoing conspiracy against The Nation’s citizens in Orwell.
Orwell is a slow-paced game and predominantly text-based. Orwell asks the player to read through documents, read transcripts, and build out a file on suspects from information culled by the Orwell monitoring system. This let’s play Orwell Episode 2, A Place where there is No Darkness series will focus on the second time we log into Orwell and continue working on one of the first “test cases” for the new system. The Orwell full playthrough and guide promises to be an interesting look into the frightening possibility of total government surveillance. A poignant topics given recent events involving the NSA, Edward Snowden, and “citizen four.”
Developed by Osmotic Studios, Orwell has been on my radar for a little bit and I’m really looking forward to playing it all the way through. Hope you all enjoy, too, so let’s play Orwell blind!
