May not seem like it at first glance, but when you experience the Item RNG and Rubber band AI, it begins to feel that way.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, I stumbled upon this game in the Microsoft shop just recently and thought I'd try something a little bit different other than the games I usually play and considering it was "free" at the time, I figured why not.

General rule of thumb and a quick disclaimer, if you're going to play a kart racing game based on a game franchise, play the original source material first because if you don't, you're not going to get much information on who some of the characters in the roster are... But I digress.

In this game, you race as the heroes and villains of "Starlit Adventures", an action/adventure platforming puzzle game developed by Rockhead Studios.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From what I've played of this new racing game, the visuals look pretty decent for a game based on a puzzle platformer. But just because something looks beautiful visual-wise, that doesn't mean that it doesn't have its fair share of problems.

Aside from the inclusion of microtransactions (which many people will complain about to no end whenever they are implemented), there are the issues of Item RNG and Rubber band AI. When you first start a race be it the regular cups or on the challenges or boss races, the driving may seem a bit easy, but half the time some of the controls may be difficult to learn unless you've paid close enough attention to them when starting. If you're able to learn the controls, it'll be easy to get used to... But with the Item RNG and Rubber band AI, it doesn't get much easier. Even if you're doing everything right, there's a likely chance that the AI drivers will still catch up and pass you a mere couple inches after you passed them. As for the items, sometimes it is a little bit hard to tell which power-ups do what unless you've played enough racing games to understand how they function. I mean yes, you got your standard shields, projectiles and speed boosts, but after you pick up the power-up blocks, you may not receive a power up you want and once a power up is in your inventory, I don't think it is possible to get another item from a power-up block unless you use the power-ups. Speaking of some items, aside from the power-ups, you have a default projectile in the form of a boomerang which may come in use to stun the other drivers, but the stun doesn't last forever, and the other drivers may use boomerangs also when you pass them or are far ahead of them and they have a tendency of spamming their power-ups.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you enjoy simple kart racers such as this one, feel free to enjoy them if you wish.

Everyone has different experiences when it comes to kart racers and their thoughts depend solely on the experience they've been through.

Just because I had a hard time on this one doesn't mean that it is a "bad game" overall. It has potential, it's just that sometimes not a lot of people see it when they experience issues like the aforementioned Rubber band AI and Item RNG.
