Around the time of the UKs 8 bit revolution the world was experiencing the fringes of the cold war. This meant that the various advances and computer systems couldn’t be legitimately be supplied to any countries on the wrong side of the iron curtain.

So consumers would either have to risk spending a lot of money on black market imports, or just build their own.

Fortunately for us collectors they chose the latter. And rather than re-invent the wheel, they chose a cheap, elegant design to reproduce and improve upon - the humble Sinclair Spectrum.
