A Super Mario Thing - 83 - USE YOUR ILLUSION
Level author: Moniker
Noo, cape! Don't leave me!
Another idea that looks creative and interesting at the outset, but ends up not having much depth to it. You use screen scrolling a few times to change what floor you're on, sometimes in midair, but apart from that it doesn't really seem to play an integral role apart from the boss battle. Of course, I did fly over the beginning, so maybe my opinion on that is a little biased.
Speaking of the boss, it's tricky enough to get used to that I don't think I would personally set a time limit at all, let alone such a strict one. It's a shame, because the boss actually uses the concept in a clever way (I think, anyway) and the frustration of running out of time kind of ruins that.
World 7 thoughts: Hmm...world 7 is all over the place. On one hand, you have levels like Dusty Desert and In and Out! Boo Circles, which have even more item shenanigans and make me think "enough is enough already," and on the other hand, you have levels that aren't too bad but have some flaws, like Starry Nights, HOT! HOT! DESERT, and SS Cotopaxi. Then you have levels like Flying Objects Sea and Ara's Desert Serac that are kind of just there: not necessarily great or terrible, but brought down by the halo effect somewhat. What's interesting is that while in hindsight I think world 7 is better than world 6 overall, at the time it felt more or less just as bad, simply because my overall experience with the hack was starting to wear away my patience. I wonder if I would have enjoyed it more were their positions swapped.
