What if I told you that Barbie isn't the only movie based on a toy currently in the works? If you're excited for Greta Gerwig's clever spin on Barbie, then I have some great news for you, your favorite toy company Mattel is also bringing another fan favorite to the big screen.
They are looking to turn their Big Friendly Purple Dinosaur "Barney" into an A24 Type Film, The studio behind movies like "Everything Everywhere All At Once" "The Whale" & "Beau Is Afraid"
They want a surrealistic adaptation of their big purple dinosaur.
Mattel Films executive Kevin McKeon told the New Yorker "We’re leaning into the millennial angst of the property rather than fine-tuning this for kids"
Oscar-winning actor Daniel Kaluuya is attached to produce the project, which he described as “heartbreaking” in a 2020 interview with EW.
“Barney taught us, ‘I love you, you love me. Won’t you say you love me too?’ That’s one of the first songs I remember, and what happens when that isn’t true? I thought that was really heartbreaking,” Kaluuya said.
