Game Review & Impressions
---------------------------------------------------
Despite being part of Sega's super scaler series of arcade games, I'd never heard of A.B. Cop before. It doesn't take too long to realise that this is pretty much a clone of Chase H.Q. with a motorcycle, albeit a futuristic one. The premise and mechanics are very similar to Taito's criminal hunting racer, except here the perps you're hunting down are a weird menagerie of aliens, robots and mutants, and instead of simply having to chase the bosses down, you actually need to destroy the convoy of outriders protecting them before they'll spawn. The graphics, as with most super scaler games, look incredible, although the amount of smoke and other other debris flying about can make it difficult to line up the bike when ramming each stage's boss.

A.B. Cop is a pretty decent game when taken on its own merits, and I think the gameplay holds up better than Chase H.Q.. That said, I remember the latter being a regular fixture in most of the arcades I visited as a kid, but never once did I see A.B. Cop. Even though it might be more technically impressive, there's just something about Chase H.Q.'s neon-tinged 80's vibe that gives it the edge in the nostalgia stakes.
