Over the years, the Academy Awards have spurned numerous records. For instance:

Who was the youngest person to ever win an Oscar?

That honor belongs to Shirley Temple, who received a statuette in 1935, at the ripe "old" age of six.  More than 70 years later, Temple was given another Oscar honor: she received the Academy's Life Achievement Award.

The oldest person to ever win a Best Supporting Actress award is Peggy Ashcroft.  She was 77 years old when she won the Oscar for her performance in ''A Passage to India,'' in 1985.

The first African-American to win an Oscar was Hattie McDaniel.  In 1940, McDaniel won Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Mammy  ''Gone With the Wind.''

To date, actress Marlee Matlin is the only deaf actor ever to win an Academy Award.  Matlin won Best Actress in 1987 for her role as Sarah Norman ''Children of a Lesser God.''

In 1962, Rita Moreno became the first-ever female Latino to win an acting Oscar.  The Puerto-Rican actress took home the trophy for Best Supporting Actress for ''West Side Story.''

While he never won a competitive Oscar, Bob Hope does hold an Academy Awards record: Hope hosted the Oscars a total of 18 times - more than anyone else.

Who has actually won the most Academy Awards? That honor goes to Walt Disney, who won 24 Oscars, four honorary awards and garnered 64 total nominations.

Which films have won the most Academy Awards?  It's a three-way tie between 1959's ''Ben-Hur,'' 1997's ''Titanic'' and 2003's ''The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.''  Each movie won 11 Oscars, including Best Picture.

Director John Ford has won the most Directing Academy Awards: four of them for the films ''The Informer,'' ''The Grapes of Wrath,'' ''How Green Was My Valley'' and ''The Quiet Man,'' which also won Best Picture in 1952.

And in arguably one of the most prestigious records of all, only three films in Oscar history have ever won the so-called "Big Five": Best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress and Writing.  They are:

*1934's ''It Happened One Night''
*1975's ''One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest''
*1991's ''The Silence of the Lambs''

The 83rd Annual Academy Awards will air on February 27, 2011.  The show, hosted by James Franco and Anne Hathaway, will be broadcast live from the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center beginning at 8pm EST on ABC.  Special "Red Carpet" coverage starts at 7pm EST.  All total, Oscars will be handed out in 25 regular categories, including the "big five": Best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress and Writing.
