Ace Combat: Assault Horizon PC (Nvidia Shadowplay Test)
So first's things first, Shadowplay (Included in the newest beta drivers for the GTX 650 and above) is frigging boss at capturing game footage. The idea here is to leverage a H.264 encoder they plastered on the video card to paste video onto the hard drive without touching your CPU (My FX-4300 thanks you Nvidia. Trying to record at this quality with anything else would of killed it). Long story short, it works as advertised even when leaked a day early.
The performance impact is almost negligible and in some cases where the GPU isn't being fully utilized, non-existent (At 1080p 60 FPS, this is flipping incredible). However there are a few rough edges in the program in the availability of options. There aren't any. You got your choice of 3 quality settings low, medium, high (AKA: kinda pixelated, not pixelated, and Holy Fucking Shit!). Personally, I've pegged the bit-rates between the three at ~8000, ~24000, ~50000 Kbps respectively though I could be wrong. This video was recorded using the medium setting. Any pixels you see are due to me toning down the bit rate in movie maker to save on bandwidth. Untampered, this recording clocked in at 2.46GBs
As for audio options, game capture or nothing, that's it. Even then, for this game it didn't fully work correctly (no voices). As a workaround I used OBS to record audio (the extra 192 Kbps on the CPU is peanuts). Slap both files into windows movie maker and hit frappe. As an added bonus, this also put's my microphone in play if I so desire. I'm quite proud of myself for coming up with this solution.
That's about it for shadowplay. Now about the game, I don't hate Assault Horizon as much as other AC fans. In-fact, I like it but I guess I didn't have to crutch on the dogfight thing as much as everyone else cause I'm awesome at Ace Combat and you should friggn worship me.
This is definitely one of my favorite levels in the game based on the music alone. Kinda reminiscent of Unreal Tournament 2004, it's fucking awesome. As is Ace Combat standard, the soundtrack kicks all kinds of ass though not as much as AC5 and Zero on the PlayStation 2.
