Ace Combat: Infinity - Mission 6 (Avalon) - Return To Zero
So, as you can already tell by now, the second half of this game looks, and feels, absolutely different from its counterpart. The writing is better, the pacing is better, the intensity and feeling of excitement is back. It almost feels like a different mind is driving this game, now. Oh, wait. It is!
Apparently, and this comes straight from the Ace Wiki, this game has two writers. One whose skill with a pen is far more superior than the other, but, alone, cannot save what has undoubtedly become a sinking ship.
There are still massive amounts of plot holes, which were the direct result from the game furiously jumping through time with only eight missions. There is still little, to no, character development among the characters. In this section of the game, a main antagonist has been placed on the board, but there's no back-story to back up where the antagonist came from, and no motive for them wanting to fight.
And even though the second writer tries to add in a bit of proper exposition, in order to fill in the void space created by the first, he still falls into a sense of awareness that this is only a budget online game, and the only reason players are here is for the multi-player, and not the narrative side of things.
I like narrative. I like exposition. It's the talking bits in films and television series that become the entree, and main course, that ultimately satisfies an audience. Action is just dessert, in which too much of it can spoil the appetite, and limits what could have been a great experience.
At this point in time, is this game worth the price that's being asked for it? No. Even though the second half of the game has stayed my angered mind, thus far. The first half of the game still resides in memory, and along with it, all the BS that had been tied to it through the current state of affairs with the free-to-play model.
