Act I: The Journeys Begin - (Osvald) Chapters 1 + 2: The Vengeful Scholar [OCTOPATH TRAVELER II]
Five years after been framed for the murder of his family, his desire for revenge keeping him alive while abused by the sadistic Warden Davids, Osvald uses the knowledge he amassed from learning the prison's inner workings to plot his escape through an underground passage. He acquires his accomplice in a clever thief and informant named Emerald, whom he tasks to obtain the ledger and the key to Osvald's muzzle.
The plan goes smoothly until they reach the underground passage's exit and find the ladder destroyed, Osvald realizing the ladder was recently destroyed as Warden Davids reveals himself and explains he deduced their plan from having Emerald observed...
Chapter 2: The Escape of Death
Once outside the prison, taking refuge at a shack in response to the arriving inspectors now aware of their escape, Osvald alters their escape plan by using buoyant straw and ice magic to craft a boat for himself and Emerald to escape on. Emerald then decides to proceed with the original plan to steal the inspectors' ship, only to be forced to set fire to the ship when cornered. Osvald himself is unsure what madness compelled Emerald as he presses on a four-day journey to the mainland, briefly having a dream of his wife Rita who reminds him that still has unfinished business and that she cannot be with him until he finishes it.
Osvald later awakens inside an old stranger's house in Cape Cod, finally free once more and with his purpose clear, Osvald sets out to find Harvey and exact his revenge.
