Adding Additional Database File Protection to Data OnTap via the CLI by Nicholas Lee Fagan

The nvfail utility also has an additional protection measure you can implement to check for data inconsistency before users can access the database or LUN. What it does is rename the database or LUN to give it an opportunity to examine it for data inconsistency before it serves the data to the client. This also prevents the database from restarting automatically. This will create a backup of the database file or LUN with a .nvfail extension that can be used to recover a database if it is found to be corrupt.
To enable this option you need to create a nvfail_rename file in the /etc/ directory. Then you list the files you want this additional file protection on, and save the file. . .
