After finishing Spec Ops: The Line, I thought it was time to attack another game in my backlog. Advent Rising has been on my backlog since it came out in 2005. The game got mixed reviews. Looking at Metacritic, it seems like it's sitting at a 68 Critic Score. Despite that, the 2005 me that existed was still excited to play it. The 2023 version of me is still happy to play it, though game quality between then and now has increased exponentially. My first impression was that of disbelief at how far we have come. This game looks rough.

I really don't even know what to say here. You can see Halo's influence from the enemies to using the camera to control vehicles. Overall, the controls aren't as bad as I was expecting. I like what they're trying to do with the stick flick to lock onto an enemy. Unfortunately, it doesn't really work that well. If I wasn't playing on Easy, my frustration level would skyrocket due to the game not locking onto my expected enemy.

The writing is a product of its time. I can't really fault it that much. This was the state of writing during this era of games. With that comes the less the exceptional voice acting. Again, it is a product of the generation.

Finally, the visuals look really crisp because they are being upscaled by the Series X. The cinematics, though, wow.

I'm reasonably sure that I will finish the game. According to How Long To Beat, it lasts around 8 hours. I expect that I will get through it rather quickly because I am playing it on Easy.
