A.E. was a great shoot 'em up created by Programmers 3 in Japan and published by Broderbund in 1982 for the Apple ][. The name of the game is an abbreviation for Stingray in Japanese (Akaei).

I believe it was one of the early games that uses half track copy protection, storing data from track 1.5 to C.5 for every track and from track E to track 1E.5 for every 1.5 track. Its boot sequence does not sound as interesting as later Broderbund games such as Choplifter (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPQxj61hfo0&list=PLSdjkDPwvoORcQEgyy0UB4BiKnrKz82uZ&index=8) and Championship Lode Runner (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZI1NL0J6kA&list=PLSdjkDPwvoORcQEgyy0UB4BiKnrKz82uZ&index=4), which used more advanced quarter track and spiral track protection.
