I've been disappointed and frustrated at my skill at shoot 'em ups for the past few years, so I wanted to try something to slowly regain the skills I had about ten years ago. The idea I had was to try a game that I loved (liked eXceed 3rd) and play for about an hour or so a week and instead of getting mad if I use a continue or fat-finger a bomb, I keep going and see how far I can get each time. After I beat a game with continues, bombs, etc then I can try and focus on learning what I had problems with during that run and overcome what frustrates me the most about a genre I love.

This week's game is a favorite of mine from when I first had access to Steam, "eXceed 3rd - Jade Penetrate Black Package". What a mouthful. This is actually an enhanced version of the original eXceed 3rd from 2007 and is much more fun (albiet like most mid-2000s Japanese doujin games, they sometimes have issues working on versions of Windows beyond 7). I feel like this could be a really good beginner's shoot em up if it wasn't for some of the bugs and weird frame data on the bullets.

I did pretty okay up until stage three, and I kept making a lot of dumb mistakes, but that's why I'm trying to play this a little more, so I can help myself to learn from those mistakes and git gud again. Stage three also has my least fun enemies/midboss, so that's always a pain in the ass. The music is also pretty goddamn good; thanks, Saitama Saishuu Heiki! Shibayan Records did the OST for the first two eXceed games, wwhile S.S.H did the 3rd games' soundtracks which all are available on Bandcamp if any of you have read this far and want to support the creator.

I'll stop talking to myself now and end by saying: "Fuck that last attack pattern".
