Airports can be quite a stressful and overwhelming place. And it’s that I’ve been travelling my whole life and wasn’t aware for a long time how triggered / bothered / on the edge I was during my trips. Now that I finally understand myself a bit better, I’d like to share with you what an authentic “airport experience” is like for a person with autism / ADHD, and what are some of the things that help me cope better, and hope these tips and hacks might help you as well.💙 Let’s talk sensory overload, crowds, rules, executive functioning and social demands, and my favourite of all: when you have meticulously planned out your whole day (including what time to drink and go to the bathroom cause you don’t want to have to pee on the plane) and now suddenly your flight is delayed for an unknown amount of time and uncertainty, that is, the anxiety of uncertainty, kicks in…
