Alfonso Cuarón, Gravity - Director Alfonso Cuarón went way out of his comfort zone when he decide to direct his new thriller, Gravity. The film stars Sandra Bullock as an astronaut who alongside her partner (played by George Clooney), gets untethered from their space shuttle and desperately fights to survive. Cuaron worked for four years on Gravity and much of that time was spent inventing the proper technology to achieve the look he wanted.

Tribute.ca spoke with Alfonso in Los Angeles about his love for outer space, why Sandra Bullock was the right woman to star in his film and whether or not he feels the need to go into orbit.

Gravity movie synopsis:

Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) is a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney). But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes.

The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone—tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth... and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

Starring: Sandra Bullock, George Clooney
In theatres: October 4, 2013
