Today we finished up our talk of algorithmic bias with a discussion of codewashing (the notion that you can hide behind a computer program to avoid accusations of error and bias), predictive policing, asset forfeiture, and how biased training sets can be used to train biased machine learning models.
We then moved into a discussion of the scientific method, how science works in practice, and the replication crisis, the notion that large numbers of important and impactful studies have failed to replicate over the years, and what's being done to fix it.
