Alien Syndrome, released by Sega in 1987, is a top-down style shooting game that sees you going to various alien-infested bases and busting up gruesome alien creatures while collecting powerups and saving as many of your comrades as you can before bombs on the base explode.

The game doesn't actually have a proper "continue" sequence - so forgive the slightly clickbait naming. Just trying to keep it consistent!

But there are actually TWO ways to game over in Alien Syndrome. One, you can lose all your lives like normal. Two, you can let the timer on the bomb run out, and you get a slightly longer game over sequence.

Fun fact! You can actually set the game to offer infinite lives - for you MAME players, push TAB to bring up MAME's options menu to get to it - which means you'll never game over. So you're basically playing it on free play in a roundabout way.
