AMERICAN ARCADIA | First Impressions | Demo Playthrough
About the game: American Arcadia is a cinematic puzzle game that combines a 2.5D platformer and first-person game to tell the tale of a thrilling escape. Experience the extraordinary story of Trevor, an average man escaping from the world's most popular reality tv show.
First impressions: This was so good and so interesting and as a fan of films like The Truman Show, I was really drawn to the premise of the game.
This could easily have been janky. You play some of the game as Trevor (a resident of Arcadia), you play some of the game as Angela (a stage technician) and you also play as both, controlling Trevors actions in the world AS WELL as controlling lights, cameras, a crane? with Angela. Some of is it first person and some of it isn't. Sounds like it's a lot but honestly, it was SEAMLESS. The transitions between characters were so smooth.
Occasionally, I would forget that I had to hit Tab to be able to access the cameras and control things from Angela's POV, but it also did feel like if I couldn't figure it out just with Trevor, then that prompted me to remember to hit Tab.
It was incredibly enjoyable, really slick and well executed. It's a fun concept and I also like that we start with Trevor saying that he's the most popular person in Arcadia, but we know the whole premise of the game is that he's NOT popular so it was also really cool that the game is basically "How Trevor became popular".
