An Automatic Mario Level Created by Some Guy [15]
This is a Super Mario World level that I created in which you don't have to touch the controls at all.
So, it's been five years since I created my YouTube account (Time really flies, huh?), and I decided that an Automatic Mario video would be good to upload today. (I started working on this a few weeks ago, in case you're wondering.)
Interestingly, I actually put this on the same ROM that contains my "Easy as 111111" automatic level, and I decided to build off of the originally abandoned plan that I stuck in Yoshi's Island 3 in that ROM (so, in that regard, I guess you could say that this automatic level was started over 2½ years ago, but I really only worked on it for a few weeks in total). I put this finished product where Yoshi's House would normally be. (The "Easy as 111111" level is also still in the ROM where YI2 normally would be, as well as the originally abandoned piece of this level in YI3.)
Now, while you're watching this, you might notice a blue moon (teleport block) in the middle of the vertical cave section near the turn block bridge and winged ? block that doesn't get used (it's at about 2:50). I put that there because I noticed that while testing the level, on some runs, the red shell would injure Mario there instead of Mario stomping it like he should, and then Mario would bounce over to where I put that moon and eventually get crushed by the turn block bridge against the wall. I couldn't figure out how to fix that without screwing up everything else that I'd already worked hard on beyond that point, so I just put a teleport moon there that takes Mario to an "Epic Fail" room where he gets a 1-up, hits a message block mentioning this issue and asking the player to retry the level, and then dies in lava below. I'd say this happens close to half of the time. (So, unfortunately, I can't claim a 100% success rate on this level. Sorry.)
Other things of note:
In the first area, there's a note block (the one touching the right side of the rope at about 0:28) that Mario will occasionally bounce off of two more times than usual due to hitting the exact corner of that note block and bouncing upwards off of it twice (it doesn't happen in this video, though). However, this doesn't mess up anything else in that area (and doesn't seem to affect whether or not the red shell will screw Mario over in the vertical cave area), but it causes Mario to finish that section two seconds later than usual, so I set the next area to always start the timer at 314 seconds (which is what Mario would normally enter the second area with) to compensate for that (which is important since Mario completes the level with 1 second remaining).
Also, while there is a midpoint, the intended midpoint entrance just doesn't want to work. For whatever reason, whenever Mario enters this area from what I intended to be midpoint entrance, the next area would always screw up near the beginning, so I disabled the midpoint entrance entirely (by setting it to screen 0, same as the regular entrance). So, if anyone playing this level for themselves is wondering why the midpoint doesn't work, that's why.
