My first time ever being east of Gateway/99th TC coming home from caring for a friend's cat while he's gone, shot at Lents Neighborhood MAX Station along the Green Line on 2/20/2024. I hope you enjoy! Description is below!

Another TriMet Fail and right on brand for 'em, too! First off, for being so gung-ho on their fare enforcement and fining anyone for "no fare/invalid fare", TriMet sure as hell likes to make it difficult or impossible for a large portion of it's ridership to buy a ticket. They took out ticket machines/payment machines on buses, then promptly began to switch out some of their ticket machines at transit centers and MAX platforms for card only payment of tickets, which makes no sense. Cash is King when it comes to "peasant class" citizens and the public services that are geared specifically toward them in the US. The serfs and transient/homeless/halfway and ultra poor most often will only be able to pay with cash for transit.

And now, we got a increasing in frequency problem with the ticket machines malfunctioning, not functioning at all, or otherwise encountering other tech and mechanical issues that disallow their users from being able to purchase their tickets. In this case, as you see/saw, jammed buttons prevent everyone from being able to buy a ticket if needed. Pathetic, but very, VERY on-brand.

And yes, you DO see what you think you see - this particular platform is long enough to host a four car train - something TriMet does NOT do ever. Why? Who the f**k knows. Probably to burn more of that capital projects cash, as usual.

I also had no sleep the prior night, and was in a new place, so the last thing on my mind was the reality that the Green Line only goes as far as SE Main Street station in-between I-205 and Mall 205. I was originally planning on staying at my friend's place for a week, so I had a lot of stuff I had to carry home with me, and it was deceptively heavy. So no sleep, carrying all that weight, and having to navigate my way through a entirely unfamiliar area to eventually reach a transit option to get back home to the westside with NO FARE was a royal pain in the ass. I'm good with making do with what I got and rolling with the punches, and I managed better than most would for sure, but man was that a horrible slog. It's a lot further than you think it is too. I had to carry what likely all together was equivalent to 80-120 pounds of weight from that MAX station northwest to 94th ave & Burnside in an attempt to catch the 20 home. Come to find out, as if Murphy wasn't already having a field day with me, that both 94th & 97th bus stops were closed until the 28th "for construction" (there was construction cones present across from the bus stop, but no signs of construction at all anywhere), so I had to push a little further west to the next stop.

I was very fortunate to have a nice, understanding driver on the 20 that showed up, thus was allowed on without having a ticket. Admittedly, she was just telling people to get on without them needing to pay or even tap their tickets/cards/apps, though I never quite caught what she was saying with that. Though it was 4:20 or so, the bus was at crushload, so naturally Murphy still had the last laugh. I had nowhere to sit, and nowhere to move/put my things, meaning I was standing in the aisle near the front door lol. Thankfully that didn't last long and a seat opened up in the front that allowed for me to place my things down.

That was my evening, and a solid 3 to 3 1/2 hour long mission home lol. Someone shoot me haha. TriMet and US Transit man... a never-ending treasure trove of things to complain and rant about. Again - it's not TriMet, it's TriMeth. At least then, it's accurate in more ways than one.
