The director of Ant-Man is sharing some new details about the sequel and we’re breaking it down for you right now! We still have over two years before another Ant-Man movie arrives in theaters, but the film’s director is giving us a hint at what we can expect. Last year’s Ant-Man became the little Marvel movie that could racking up over $500 million at the worldwide box office and garnering rave reviews from critics and moviegoers alike. Despite being one of Marvel Studios lesser known heroes, it managed to beat out Avengers: Age of Ultron for “Best Comic-to-Film Motion Picture” at last week’s Saturn Awards and at the event, Modern Myth Media had a chance to talk to director Peyton Reed about the movie and of course it’s upcoming sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp. About beating out the Avengers sequel to take the top prize, Reed said it was nice company to be in and was thrilled to win, but also compared the win to the movie saying Ant-Man is a lesser known character and someone that people have low expectations for as a hero, but he often proves them wrong. He went on to contribute much of the film’s success to his cast, including Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas and Michael Pena. Of course, while we’ll have to wait a couple more years before we see another Ant-Man solo film, the character will likely show up in other Marvel movies, including most recently in Captain America: Civil War. When asked about Giant Man making his debut in that film, Reed admitted he was jealous when he found out Civil War directors Joe and Anthony Russo would get to introduce that aspect of the character on the big screen, but said he loved what they did with it and with so many people seeing that film, it would be great for the Ant-Man sequel. As for what the sequel will be about, Reed revealed that he and Paul Rudd are currently busy writing the script, which is currently set to arrive in theaters on July 6th, 2018 and while he wouldn’t give any plot points away, he did say that it will be a big leap forward as they will have to contend with Scott Lang once again being a fugitive after the events of Civil War and potentially where he ends up at the end of Avengers Infinity War a couple months prior. Reed also revealed that he is combing through both early Ant-Man and Avengers stories as well as new Nick Spencer comic storylines not only for plot inspiration, but also for iconic images he can squeeze into the film. 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp will be historic in that it will be the first Marvel Studios film to feature a female character in the title and when asked about introducing “Wasp” into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Reed said quote, “For me as a comic nerd, I always thought of Ant-Man and Wasp as a team and that’s a lot of what the second movie is really about is how they work together, what their personal and professional relationships are like. To show her finally fully formed in this movie is really exciting…to me she’s not a supporting character in this movie. It’s every bit as much her movie as it is Scott Lang’s.” So, who out there is excited for Ant-Man and the Wasp and are you looking forward to seeing Wasp finally introduced into the MCU? Share your thoughts in the comments and then click here to find out what we want to see happen in the sequel. I’m Erin Robinson, thanks for watching and we’ll see you soon with more movie news!
