Are we gods or monsters? Professor Richard Bartle isn't sure when it comes to non player characters that live in video games. One day they might be not canon fodder and simple-minded merchants and characters walking in circles. They will be "sapient", intelligent, living beings - somehow. Those who created them, what are they then? Gods? And those who kill them over and over again, are they killers? Is this an upcoming frontier? Bartle discusses with Jesper Juul from the University of Copenhagen, one of the world's most renowned academic game researchers.
