Hey! Few things.... Definitely check out the Seattle gigs if you're interested. Bunch of the best high school musicians in the world and I'll be soloing with them and that'll be dope.
Next, it's a safety pin on my hat, so quit asking! Here's why... (There's a very concise description on my instagram, but here's the full story...) It's a movement that started from Brexit, when a portion of British people began to actively and publicly discriminate against immigrants in sometimes very scary and violent ways. The safety pin was a way to show the immigrants that anybody wearing one was on their side and would treat them with respect. In this case, it's for any of the numerous sub-groups in our current culture who are understandably feeling very unsafe just walking down the street. Wearing the safety pin shows that you think everybody, no matter of politics/religion/ethnicity/gender, deserves to feel safe in this country. I really encourage you to tack one on before you leave the house in the morning from now on. If you're in school, it means you'll step in if somebody is being bullied. It means you'll be a friendly face and say hello to somebody who has been marginalized. In big cities it means somebody can sit next to you on the subway and feel safe, or talk to you, or honestly just walk by you without feeling anxiety. I hope to see you guys wearing them soon! Feel free to post a picture and description of why and tweet or tag me in it on insta :). For those of you coming out or playing at the Seattle performances- I'll definitely be wearing mine.
Thanks for being really supportive people. Most of you are in middle and high school, and the mutual respect I see in the YouTube comments here is unreal. We all know YouTube comments bring out the worst in us, so if that's the worst in all of you, logic tells me you're going to be some really intelligent, creative, and good natured leaders of the next generation. If I could choose between having 10 times the fanbase but lose you all in the process, it would not be a hard decision. Thanks again. You girls and guys are my faith in humanity.
