ARMA2 - FOV Testing (20,40,60 and 80 degrees) Tutorial Link
As I am a simulator perfectionist I went into my "my documents/arma2/Zeos.ArmA2Profile" and started screwing with the 2 setting called fovTop and fovLeft. Since Arma is Czech its inherently wrong. FOVtop is the vertical Field of View and FOV Left is the Horizontal both in Radians and NOT Degrees. Now you get 2 FOV settings in arma so you can have a different aspect ratios on your particular monitor(s).
I have a single 16X10 so that means if I set my vertical to 20 degrees (20 degrees = 0.34906585 radians) I have to set my Horizontal to 32. 16x10=32°x20° and so on. Now Arma doesn't fix you to whole numbers. If you want 84.239387 Radians then that's what you shall have! A game like arma however doesn't work very well with correct FOV. Menu's and Hud elements screw up royally.
Also, without at least a 120 degree triplehead in proper FOV you are going to be killed. Really. You can't see anything. You would need track IR and neck steroids to even come close to not dying all the time by people just out of your frame of vision. I will say this however. You are MUCH MUCH MUCH more likely to see someone 200 meters from you lying down in a field if your FOV is closer to the correct value. So with that info I say this.
If your a sniper in this game and have no need to worry about creeping around towns and being flanked. Go for broke. Calculate your correct FOV and go nuts. But if you need to have eyes like tit-mouse that see 270 degrees around you because your soooo afraid of the boogie man than 80-100 degrees is where your gay ass belongs, gay ass.
