In this game the Totems got a huge glow up compared to ToM 1/2 and Curse of Montezuma, first of all they are all animated and in 3D pretty cool. And when they will be upgraded, they will not open their mouths lol instead they will get *shiny* but I will let you see that by yourself.
And yes the Blue Totem is now useful in this game since he throw thunders to the board now instead of removing the steel tiles.
Now the Yellow Totem is super super useful in this game since you have to score in order to get the medals so that's a +
But where is the Purple Totem ???
