Assassin's Creed laid the groundwork for so many games that came after it, not only other AC games but others like the Batman Arkham games. The series changed a whole lot over time, to the point where it so barely resembles itself anymore. Save for around an hour of cutscenes that connect the plots of Valhalla to the rest of the series, it's a whole different beast, and not a good one at that. Littered with ridiculous microtransactions, a boring story, tired dialogue, and gameplay that innovates upon nothing.

Then and Now is a series of my own creation where I take a look at the first game in a series and the most recent game in the series. I want to see how much they've changed, stayed the same, improved, or gotten worse. It's not meant to be a retrospective on an entire franchise, but more-so just meant to shine a light on the key differences between two games.
