Astlibra Revision, Lore Analysis 6 - A True Monster
This one is a bit confusing, but basically, I just do a lot of discussion here about the context behind Anulis being a "monster" as labeled by Lezartus.
I find it interesting how Anulis creates her demon body. It really is in fact a demon, we already know this. Even the three heroes in one timeline accidentally stumble upon Anulis, and this winds up being how Anulis decides to find us.
The timeline shenanigans here are strange, but the simple fact is--
Technically speaking, ANUBIS only exists in one time period. It uses the power stolen from Astraea in order to go back in time. As such, Anulis, as part of ANUBIS, can see multiple timelines. In one timeline, the Hero first ran into Anulis right after she created her physical body.
This body is technically a demon, but its also human at the same time. She might even actually be able to bear children as in one ending. However, she also has the powers of the ANUBIS system which makes her a powerful foe in combat, which allowed her to rip right through all of Lezartus' soldiers in the first timeline.
We never fight the adult version of Anulis during the story, but my assumption is that adult Anulis' fighting style is based on the Arena boss. Perhaps she was intended to be fought during the main game but it got scrapped, so she was relegated to an Arena fight, then was inserted into the Random Dungeon as the one time you can actually fight her outside of the story.
I think the fake Hero in the Iron Maiden is also a demon, too--probably a demon Anulis created in the present day designed to resemble the Hero. She did study his DNA, after all. However, its only his DNA, not his mind, so this false Hero couldn't satisfy her desire for love.
While the ending where the Hero and Anulis live together in Rispadar is a good ending, its also a false good ending. She's not safe to be around as long as she's still part of the ANUBIS system. However, the Great Sage did hope that, perhaps, Hero staying with her could have been a means to keep her at bay.
After finishing the main game, I went ahead and replayed the entire game on Hell Difficulty to get a few things we missed, explore alternate dialogue paths, delve into lore details I missed the first time around, as well as challenge all bosses on a higher difficulty level. I'll be releasing these bonus episodes sporadically, but I'll try and make them as sequential as possible.
Please note that these episodes may mix-and-match things during out replay sessions of the game. As such, we might do a lore analysis surrounding a boss battle, but the boss battle is cut out. The boss battles will be in its own separate series to primarily focus on the boss battles themselves, though some are kinda hard to include without replaying the events nearby.
The three series I have here are:
Variations - This shows the events that happen depending on choices made during the game. This is only restricted to the Main Game rather than Postscript as in the Postscript there's barely any variations.
Hell Bosses - Facing off against boss battles on Hell Difficulty. I opted to restrict this only to the more interesting bosses as honestly, they weren't that different on Hell Difficulty for the most part.
Lore Analysis - This is only during Postscript. Here I just replay the story and analyze elements of the story I was interested in and wanted to highlight things I missed.
