Astlibra Revision, Part 52 - Ch5-10, Gau the Traitor
Once you defeat the Lich (the "fake" Demon King), you realize something is wrong because you haven't gone back to the present yet. To move on, you have to find a hidden passage behind the throne by jumping up behind the throne.
Anulis tries to stop us, because of what's waiting in the next room--more pods, this time some of them containing humanoids that look like Anulis. Obviously this is what she's trying to prevent. One of them even has a similar ribbon to the one we're wearing, the one she lost as a child.
Deeper in we catch up with Gau, and even meet the mysterious boy again! He doesn't attack us, because this is apparently a past version of him. According to him, the demons don't exist in "the true history", and he attacks anyone who tries to change history. This version of him hasn't met us yet, so he doesn't realize we're trying to do exactly that.
Once we finally reach the Demon King, we learn it truly is immortal... and we learn why once the four heroes arrive and try and break the seal. The Demon King had taken Gau's sister, absorbing her into itself. She's the one sealing it away, but her powers are also continuously reviving it. Our Gau, however, shows up and finishes what he knew he should have done in this original moment...
Astlibra Revision is an interesting title. The original developer KEIZO worked on a freeware version of the game for over a decade in his spare time. Revision is a cleaned up version of the final game, published by Whisper Games. Vanillaware artist Shigatake also assisted in some art assets for Revision!
Having finally gotten a chance to play it, I absolutely love this game, its story, its characters and world. I was shocked by just how much I really enjoyed this game.
