Asus ROG Ally VS something else? | Is the chase for the next "BEST" handheld worth it?
I'll admit I've chased the dream of everything in the palm of my hands Handheld Gaming for years. From my original GPD Win which really couldn't play any modern games but could play classic titles and be used a remote play device when remote play devices were pretty rare. To my most power Handheld, the Steam Deck, which lets me play even the latest titles at low settings and at least 30fps.
But what if you want more?
Well there is the Asus ROG Ally as the obvious choice. It should manage 720p, Medium and 60fps for most of the latest titles.
But what if you want more?
Well currently there isn't anything powerful enough in the handheld market, and there probably won't be for at least 2 more handheld generations.
So here is what I've done, yes its an Apples VS Oranges comparison but the end goal is the same, gaming in the palm of your hands.
Get a powerful but small mini PC, plug it inconspicuously into your router and TV and then use it as your own mini "Cloud" gaming device. 1080p High Settings, 60fps and even a little Ray Tracing in some games. And then connect to it with whatever handheld you've got to hand. You could even use your mobile phone and a controller, although something a little more "gamer" is always nice.
