6In which I play "Starbase 13" published as a type-in by SoftSide magazine in volume 5, issue 7 and written by Mark Baldwin. This BASIC game is a sort-of clone of the arcade game "Space Zap", which I hunt for at the beginning of the video, trying and failing to remember the name. I believe that is probably the most gripping segment of video I have produced to date. Later on, I wisely pause the video, go find the game, and then play it for a short while as a comparison.
In this version, the difficulty ramp comes from the enemies appearing closer and closer to the central base, which is a clever work-around for not being able to make the game work any faster in BASIC.
