It's not every day I get to show you a piece of video game development hardware history...and its even less often I get so show a piece of a video game console that was cancelled and never released to the retro gaming public...but today you get both...and its NOT 3DO M2 related! Nope...its Atari Panther time!

Pretty much everyone knows about the Atari Jaguar; Atari's "64 bit" (liars!) 3D system that was meant to take on the 3DO, PS1, Sega Saturn and Nintendo 64...but not everyone knows that while the Jaguar was in development...so was a 16-bit console meant to take on the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis...and it was called the Atari Panther.
What remains of the Panther? apparently two full dev kits...and a couple Otis Sound boards that sport an Ensonic sound chip. So it's a piece of Atari video game history and preservation...and one very odd board! But we can take a listen to what the sound chip could do...as Taito used it on some arcade boards!
Panther is 3DO M2 / SNES CD / Sony Nintendo Playstation levels of rare and cancelled!
