Attempting to Learn a Song
11I tried to learn how to play this by ear today, this is the closest I've gotten so far. I never took piano lessons, I taught myself to play piano when I was in high school, after my great aunt "gifted" my parents an out-of-tune-upright that came from a community college. I did it almost entirely by listening to Ben Folds Five and Randy Newman and trying to learn their songs. Sadder songs are always easier to learn than happy ones. In 2003 Randy Newman put out a "songbook" of him playing some of his songs solo on piano, and there was this instrumental track on there called, "When Somebody Loved Me" and it was only a minute long and it was so beautiful I was always fascinated by it. Literally just a week ago I found out it was a real song with lyrics in Toy Story 2, it was the weirdest feeling. I'm certain I've seen Toy Story 2 at some point in my life, but definitely not in the last twenty years apparently.
