Amidst a crisis, Ukrainian developer does some detective work

Since then-President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych backed out of a trade agreement with the European Union in November of 2013, choosing instead to continue the country’s affiliation with its isolated neighbor, Russia, against the wishes of the majority of Ukraine’s citizens, Ukraine has experienced an almost constant state of unrest. What began as the peaceful yet populous Euromaidan protests in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv’s Independence Square, locally referred to as “Maidan” (Ukranian for “square”), quickly escalated into violence with the retaliation of the local police force, the eventual flight of Yanukovych, and Russia’s military involvement, plunging the country into a state of civil war, to which only recently a ceasefire has been agreed upon.
