"Ecco the Dolphin" for Master System is a great game, making a welcome addition to the library.

"Ecco the Dolphin: The Tides of Time" for Master System is an unholy cursed mess that shames everyone involved. Somehow the same team from the first game went on to cock-up everything for the sequel on Game Gear. This was then compounded by Tec Toy doing the port to Master System, without even adjusting for screen size. The result is ruined controls, ugly graphical glitches, and an incoherent mess of a storyline. Even the audio quality is notably worse. The incompetence on display is quite aggravating, considering that Ecco 1 had none of these problems.

Among the flaws of this game, it only has 6 music tracks total. (The previous game had 16 used and 2 unused tracks.) But there is one speck of gold in the dungheap. One of those 6 tracks is "Vents of Medusa." This piece of music is truly the sole redeeming feature of this game, and thankfully, has not been overlooked. The track is a fan favourite and remixes are plentiful. But, here is the original, in the squeaky SMS soundfont. You should definitely follow that link at the top to a much better instrumentation!
