That's Green Hills Zone with an S. The S is important because it lets you know you're getting this pathetic knock-off Zone instead of the original.

Here I include the original SMS soundfont, as well as a superb remix by an unknown artist. If you know who created it, please tell me.

The music from "Green Hills Zone with an S" is awesome and was reused several times throughout the franchise. It would be remixed for "Mecha Green Hill Zone" in this game's immediate sequel, then was reborn again as "You Can Do Anything" in Sonic CD.

This is one of the few occasions when the Green Hill knockoff level isn't first on the roster. It only appears much later in the game. We know from prototype builds it was intended to be level one [see here: https://tcrf.net/Proto:Sonic_the_Hedgehog_2_(Sega_Master_System,_Game_Gear)]. One obvious reason for it getting pushed back is that it's far too difficult. The level design consists entirely of blind leaps of faith and spike pits. This mediocre level design is typical of the whole of Sonic 2, but Green Hills Zone is the worst offender.
