[BA3] DSM V - Who's Mess Is It Anyway?
1Dr. Lee Wachtel and Dr. Carmen Lopez-Arvizu are two doctors in positions of leadership at from the Kennedy Krieger Institute, who are a board member and ally of the National Council on Severe Autism, respectively.
They think the DSM V has turned the Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis into a mess since it was introduced in 2013.
Whether or not the DSM V can benefit from improvement, its a SEVERE mess that that two doctors from a childhood disability hospital are subjecting actual autistic people to public contempt and ridicule for speaking out against disability discrimination and for accessing disability support resources they have been eligible for AT LEAST as far back as 30 years.
These members and allies of the NCSA seem to think that autistic people who can attempt things they insist that their own autistic children and patients can not, are the opponents of those who have "true autism", and in Part 3 of my series, I'll be explicating how truly awful that logic is for autistic people of ALL support needs levels.
