Of all things to do around this time of year, I felt like playing this again for some reason. It's been a few years... But it was fun spending some pre-Christmas time with this game.

It's still one of the coolest mech games I've ever played. It's so actiony and stylish, very polished, and all... the cool thing is coming back to this game after I've improved a lot as a gamer, a fighting gamer especially. The combo depth in this game is just amazing. Every single attack is an individual attack done manually, though it does use a sort of branching system. And timing can be pretty tight in these combos. Hard to explain quickly, but basically, you set various attacks to three buttons, which play out contextually, then start branching in line, which can also affect the other buttons' combo lines. In a way, you create your own moveset and attack chains, and sort of fluidly shift gears between three movesets.

So what you get it a pure action game with insane, purely custom combos, that you can continue mixing and matching. Some mechs have more moves that can even be set at one time. And the way they made super moves is amazing. Landing those hits with all the ridiculous slowdown and camera effects is pure bliss, you almost just want to do a hot-blooded cry straight out of anime... They get more powerful the longer the combo you did beforehand, so if you use them after exhausting all your options, you get some absurd results.

This game also has like, 80 playable mechs? Sure, only around 10 have 'true' movesets, but it's cool you can play as all the various grunts and stuff and squeeze out some combos and use with them. Except maybe... the tiny little clumsy one. Yeah, you can play as it.

Anyway, this video isn't anything too special. It's just messing around in the game a bit, and I put some Christmas music from Macross Frontier over it. And I guess a little bit at the end.

First I show off some of my proud little combos (I practiced the game mechanics and those combos a good while...), then a challenge mission (that was hard, it took almost 30 tries), then two funny little bits against some... questionable mechs. It's really satisfying to pull off all of your own custom combos in the heat of these battles.

It's been over 12 years that I've been making videos... I died out quite a bit over the last two, but I've been getting back into the loop again. Considering how long it's been, the amount of following or views this channel gets is pretty pitiful... but it's always fun to make videos, and I'm thankful for the select few (you probably know who you are) of you I know have been hanging around a while. Still, comments now and then make me happy, so long as they're not the 'what game/song is thiz (answer is in description)' kind.

Well, here's to another mechy year. Mechy Christmas, everyone. I've got some brand new Gundam Versus and E.X. Troopers (and figures!) to play now.
