Barbie Movie Interview: America Ferrera's New Connection to the Iconic Mattel Brand

America Ferrera may not have been a Barbie girl growing up, but Greta Gerwig's new Barbie movie has completely reshaped her connection to the iconic Mattel brand and her hopes for the beloved doll going forward.
While part of the movie takes place in Barbie Land, a world of pink, plastic and fun, Margot Robbie's Barbie and Ryan Gosling’s Ken also journey to the real world where they’re confronted with the harsh realities of human life. One of those humans is Ferrera’s Gloria, a mother and extremely hard worker. Gloria has dreams of becoming a stronger force at Mattel, but the male-dominated upper echelon of the company makes that an uphill battle.
In an interview with Collider’s Perri Nemiroff, Ferrera discussed the accomplishments made on the set of Barbie, accomplishments that make the brand for more people than ever. During their chat, Ferrera detailed why Gerwig’s vision for Barbie changed her perspective on the brand, revealed the cherished toy from her childhood that made a lasting impression, and talked about how much she valued her trust in Gerwig and Gerwig trust in her as well.
