The Runner:
Set during the first days of the Gallipoli Campaign in 1915, the player takes on the role of Australian message runner, Frederick Bishop. The story starts with Bishop encountering young Jack Foster, who says he is Bishop's new charge. While initially cynical, replying to Foster's question of his identity with,"Nope, he's dead, sorry." Bishop reluctantly relents, but forces Foster to remain behind the front-lines when his lack of combat experience and training becomes obvious. Bishop storms the beach, and fights his way through the trenches, eventually capturing the Helles Overlook, on top of the cliffs. Bishop sends up the signal flare, only to find out that Foster has moved ahead of the rear echelon units beforehand, to the fury of Bishop, who flies into a rage, facing Foster to the carnage of the beaches, the latter of which is speechless, Bishop then calms down, smiling at Foster, saying that he's not going to die,'Unless he's a Kiwi', and gives Foster a quick crash course in basic firearm training.

The next day, a British Commander approaches the two, saying that he needs a runner for the front lines, initially choosing Foster for the job, but relents after Bishop says that he's simply going to get himself killed, to the dismay of young Foster. Bishop makes his way to the frontlines, intending to get the report from the soldiers stationed there. He gets the report, and makes his way back to the field HQ, fighting off waves of Turkish soldiers. He then begins to move inside, and Foster appears, opening the door, but then abruptly raises his rifle, and shoots a Turkish soldier about to shoot Bishop. Bishop reports in to the commanding officer, who then orders him to report to rear command, informing them that the British are going to be moving up.

Bishop makes his way to the Rear Command outpost, only to find it deserted. Upon entering the building, he discovers that the British are retreating and, to Bishop's horror, are going to be shelling their positions with artillery to cover the retreat. Remembering that Foster is still on the frontlines, Bishop rushes back, while saying that it was typical of the British to shell their own positions. He makes his way back to the frontline, defending it from Turkish Troops. He reports in to Commander Whitehall, discovering that Foster has joined an assault on a Turkish controlled fortress. He says that he's going after him, and a shaken Whitehall says that he'll allow him to go, saying he didn't see him. Bishop fights his way to the fort, finding Foster and the remaining British Forces. He informs Foster that the British are going to be shelling their positions, and Foster says that they would be unable to outrun the Turks in a retreat, due to their wounded. Bishop orders Foster to retreat, saying that he'll distract the Turkish forces at the fort, and tells Foster to send up a flare when he's made it to the ship, saying he'll begin his own retreat then.

Bishop fights his way through the fort, eventually 'capturing' the courtyard, then makes his way to the top of the fort, only to be shot and wounded by a Turkish soldier, who he manages to kill. He falls to the ground, bleeding, then looks to the beaches, seeing Foster send up the signal flare. He manages to say,"Good kid." before the artillery barrage envelops the fort, where Bishop is assumed to be dead.
