Battletech 2017 Beta Review - Double Strike Hit and Run Tactics with Light Mechs
194In today's episode of the Battletech Beta Review series I want to show you the importance of initative and a way to abuse it with Light Mechs.
The initiative turn order in Battletech 2017 is determined by the weight class of the Mech which means that Light Mechs act first, followed by Mediums, Heavies and Assaults. This gives you a great advantage on the battlefield if you know how to utilize it.
To set up an ambush all you need to do is leaving your Light Mechs out of line of sight and reserve them to the initiative turn 1. You wait until every enemy Mech has moved and then dash out to make a quick strike (preferably to the back armor of your target Mech). After you are done the new round starts. You have two options now: Either you jump back to cover and set up for the next turn, which basically enables a hit and run tactic. Or you shoot again to the already damaged back of your target and hopefully destroy it. This leaves your Mech in a very vulnerable situation. But sometimes it makes sense trading a Light Mech for a Heavy.
After playing several hours of the Battletech game I can say that it already feels like your decisions are meaningful and you can pull of some nice combos and synergies. I am very much looking forward to the full version of Battletech 2017.
Important info: I am getting asked a lot when the final version of the Battletech game will be released. My answer is: When it's ready. Harebrained Schemes are working hard on it and they to present us the best version of the game that they are able to create. I highly appreciate the fact that they postponed the release of the multiplayer part for stability reasons. This shows a very healthy release philosophy. Of course I will keep you updated on the final Battletech release date as soon as I get more information on that.
