Beetle Adventure Racing! - Variable framerate testing
Process:
We used 60 FPS lossless captures of the game running on a real N64 to compare framerate/timer differences based on combinations of music on/off, display on/off, and first-person/third-person view.
I noticed differences when testing each variable permutation, so each scenario is not entirely deterministic. More samples will be needed here and in other levels as well.
Variables:
Music maximum / minimum
Display on / off
First-person / default view
Chain:
S-Video, GV-USB2, Amarec 3.10, Lagarith lossless codec, Avidemux, Adobe Premiere
Timing:
Videos are synced at the first frame the chase camera shows the rear of the car, and end at the either the first frame where the car disappears (3rd person) or the view changes (1st person).
Notes:
I recommend using frame advance to see how the timer varies between clips, and how the framerate of each clip differs.
The A button is held for the entirely of each clip, and no other inputs are entered. Automatic Transmission is used.
