Space Rogue by Paul Neurath is a sandbox space sim set in the Far Arm of the Milky Way. Cast adrift in a seemingly derelict spacecraft after your compatriots were destroyed by the insectoid Manchi, it's up to you to find a way to survive... and perhaps avenge the fallen.

This unusual offering from Origin, released for Atari ST in 1990, combined 3D spaceflight sequences with top-down astral navigation and Ultima-style on foot sequences in starbases, where you can chat with people, discover things about the game's universe and even play the galaxy's hottest arcade game.

It served as a big inspiration for a certain Chris Roberts, also working for Origin at the time, who would go on to create one of the most influential space sim series of all time...
