Sherlock and Marvel star Benedict Cumberbatch sits down with BAFTA New York to discuss his incredible and varied career. Having played people like Vincent Van Gogh, Alan Turing and Julian Assange, he breaks down what it's like to portray iconic figures from history. Conversation also touches on his new-found fame and getting to grips with his "timeless" look.
Benedict Cumberbatch started his work in theatre - which he often returns to, having recently portrayed Hamlet at the Barbican - but garnered critical acclaim in television, particularly for his work alongside Tom Hardy for Stuart: A Life Backwards. He shot to fame playing Sherlock Holmes in the BBC's modern adaptation of Sherlock, and has since been BAFTA and Oscar-nominated.
